Dewey Decimals Book Club (updated 11/11/2024)

Sunset Bay resident Debbie Brown started the Dewey Decimals Book Club in 2011 and it's been going strong ever since. Meetings are held monthly to discuss a book that is chosen well in advance by members of the group. The group leader or the person who suggested the book leads the discussion.  Because everyone's busy with summer activities, no meetings are held in June, July or August. December's meeting is usually a holiday luncheon. Every fall the book club tries to take a 2-3 day field trip getaway to an interesting local destination.  Attending these meetings is a great way to get to know your neighbors and read books you might not have known about.  Meetings are posted on the Calendar.

Property owners who wish to join the Dewey Decimals Book Club, please email Debbie Brown.

Garden Party (updated 5/22/2024)

We are a group of Sunset Bay gardeners or wanna-be-gardeners.  We all have various experiences & gifts; probably each had our own share of failures & successes that we can all learn from, and laugh at; sharing tricks & tips; maybe have an occasional expert teach us something or learn what does & doesn’t grow well here; take a field trip to a local nursery or flower festival; talk about gardens, potted plants, dirt, herbs, veggie gardens, indoor plants, predators & pests; our options are endless.  Our purpose is to be informal, relaxed, informative, and have fun as we learn to grow things, as well as grow & enrich our relationships with our neighbors.

Our meetings are going to be flexible, based on the seasons.   Always check the website calendar for times & locations.  Property owners who wish to participate in our “budding” group can contact Libby Brown.

Shared Tips & Tricks

Pickleball

The Sunset Bay court facilities are reserved for our property owners and their guests.  There are 4 pickleball courts and 1 tennis court.  Pickleball and tennis cannot be played at the same time.  The courts are used on a first come/first serve basis.  Pickleball paddles and balls are provided in a box on the courts.  When you are finished playing, please return all paddles and balls to the box.  If you play tennis, please replace the pickleball nets to the original location when you have finished.  All are invited to come and learn to play no matter what your skill level is.  Periodically Rich Lemming will host a pickleball lesson which will be advertised in the weekly “This Week in the Bay” email.  The weekly email usually mentions the current time for pickleball, since it varies by season/weather.  In 2023, the pickleball community has started using the Team Reach App instead of using group text messages when changing the start times.  Please contact Rich Lemming to be invited to the Team Reach App group.

Summer hours are usually 8:00am Monday – Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday.

Spring and Fall hours are usually 10:00am Monday – Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday.

Winter hours are usually 3:00pm Monday – Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday.

Questions can be directed to Rich Lemming.

Potluck Dinners

To help property owners meet others in Sunset Bay, monthly potluck dinners are held at the clubhouse.  The Social Events Committee organizes and manages these events.  The committee provides the main dish in the following months:  April, May, June, August, and November and owners bring dishes to share along with their own drinks.  Come and join us!  Check the Sunset Bay Calendar for planned potlucks each month.  Property owners who wish to attend are encouraged to RSVP on the Web Calendar to help the planners determine the amount of food needed and how many tables/chairs to set up for each event.

Norris Lake Quilt/Sewing/Crafting Bee

Norris Lake Quilt Bee was started in April, 2008 by six ladies from Sunset Bay, Norris Shores and Maynardville. In 2021, there are more than 20 members who come from all over this region: Sunset Bay, Norris Shores, Waterside Cove, Sharps Chapel, Maynardville, and Knoxville. New members are always welcome. While quilting is the main activity, some members are also knitters, crocheters and crafters. In addition to working on our projects, we have a good time, help one another, and enjoy good conversation.

The bee meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, 681 Sharps Chapel Road. The church is open at 9:00 a.m. and we work until mid-afternoon as folks are ready to close up shop. Each member brings their packed lunch and one member brings dessert. During lunch we have a short meeting. There is no membership fee, but twice a year we make an offering to the church for the use of their facility.
Most often members work on their individual projects, but we also do charity projects from time to time as a group. Twice a year (in the spring and fall) we have quilt retreats at Becky’s Barn in Grimsley, TN, which is a facility that our members enjoy.

Anyone interested in more information or in joining our bee may contact Emily Lemming.
