American Red Cross Services in Union County
Description: Today, Union County Red Cross volunteers provide:

• 9 Disaster Action Teams (DAT). Each team is on call 24/7 for a month and is paged by 911 Dispatch for any
fire, flood, etc. DAT teams have been able to provide immediate food, new clothing, new prescription
glasses/medications as well as other services.

• Volunteers trained to open and manage a shelter, provide mass care and family service to victims of any community-wide disaster.

• Blood pressure checks and Family Disaster Planning information at county events. How well prepared you are
for a disaster may mean the difference between surviving and succumbing to the disaster.

• Networking with other Union County groups and agencies.

• Take free Red Cross classes in the schools.

• Scrubby Bear, a personal hygiene class taught by Tracie Booth to all Union County first graders.

• WHALE Tales, a water safety class taught by Tracie Booth and Amy Coile to all Union County second graders.

• Be Cool About Fire Safety, fire safety presentation featuring the music of Little Richard for third graders
brought to the schools by husband and wife team Bill Manning and Shirlee Grabko.

• Safe on My Own, a stranger safety discussion for all fourth graders taught by Tracie Booth.

• Basic Aid Training, a 6 hour first aid class for all Union County fourth graders teaching how to react in an
emergency, wound care, rescue breathing, and abdominal thrust techniques. Funded by St. Mary’s Healthcare.
